All 17 of the United Nations ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ to transform our world are crucial! However as it well known, most organizations find that their values lean more towards some goals than others. As Bashumi Instruments & Control Services, considering that we offer products and services to numerous industries – we find ourselves well within the 17 SDG Goals which is about ‘partnership for the goals.
However, our deepest passions lie in fulfilling three goals:
Quality Education
Gender Equality
Reduced Inequalities
With these SDGs in mind, our founder, Lomo – donated sanitary pads to young girls at Matshwara Secondary School in Ga-Shongwane Lephalale Limpopo.
“My cousin who happens to be a teacher at the school had told me about the challenges that she has to deal with as a Life Orientation teacher…’’
Lomo details the heartfelt story, “she told me about incidents where girls will not come to school because they did not have the sanitary towels. I was truly touched when I heard a story of a girl that would not move from her seat because she had messed herself, therefore, she had to wait for everyone to leave the class before she could get up from the chair that she has been sitting on the whole day…’’ Upon hearing about the humiliation that this young woman was subjected to – and realizing that the student had to miss her other classes simply because of natural biology moved Lomo to this generous act of donating sanitary pads.
With these sanitary pads, Lomo hopes that the young benefactors “will have hope and confidence. I am hoping It will teach them to care about others too as they grow.’’
Equality doesn’t only become an issue when a young woman enters the workforce – instead, at BICS we believe that our country can begin preparing girls to break the glass ceiling by empowering them in the least glamorous ways because that’s what often matters the most.
At BICS, our casual workers team is made up of seven(7) youth, six(6) of them being young woman – and so we’re hopeful that our little contribution and gesture will make a difference in the society we live in. By offering this young women employment opportunity – we almost guaranteed that they will feed the entire family which gives households hope and has the potential to change the entire trajectory of their lives.
