It’s exactly 15 years since Bashumi Instruments (BICS) was established as a black female owned outfit, with a dream of entering a world of business previously believed to be a predominantly white industry.
Since then we had to adapt to the constantly changing industrial dynamics of information technological advances and service orientated business. With our target market also evolving to the globalized standards of business, Bashumi Instruments had to re-invent itself to maintain and continue to provide quality and efficient services to our clients.
As we take this year to introspect on our journey from humble beginnings, we also think it’s important to commend and thank our valued clients for their immense support and loyalty over the years despite some of the service challenges that we may have come across over the years. Our proactiveness and versatility in providing excellent service including the service diversification could not have been possible without the immense and necessary demands and pressures from our clients.
We will continue to embrace our social responsibility to support youth academic excellence, women empowerment initiatives and the assimilation of young qualified black professionals into the formal industry.
All 17 of the United Nations ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ to transform our world are crucial! However as it well known, most organizations find that their values lean more towards some goals than others. As Bashumi Instruments & Control Services, considering that we offer products and services to numerous industries – we find ourselves well within the 17 SDG Goals which is about ‘partnership for the goals.
However, our deepest passions lie in fulfilling three goals:
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Reduced Inequalities
With these SDGs in mind, our founder, Lomo – donated sanitary pads to young girls at Matshwara Secondary School in Ga-Shongwane Lephalale Limpopo.
“My cousin who happens to be a teacher at the school had told me about the challenges that she has to deal with as a Life Orientation teacher…’’
Lomo details the heartfelt story, “she told me about incidents where girls will not come to school because they did not have the sanitary towels. I was truly touched when I heard a story of a girl that would not move from her seat because she had messed herself, therefore, she had to wait for everyone to leave the class before she could get up from the chair that she has been sitting on the whole day…’’ Upon hearing about the humiliation that this young woman was subjected to – and realizing that the student had to miss her other classes simply because of natural biology moved Lomo to this generous act of donating sanitary pads.
With these sanitary pads, Lomo hopes that the young benefactors “will have hope and confidence. I am hoping It will teach them to care about others too as they grow.’’
Equality doesn’t only become an issue when a young woman enters the workforce – instead, at BICS we believe that our country can begin preparing girls to break the glass ceiling by empowering them in the least glamorous ways because that’s what often matters the most.
At BICS, our casual workers team is made up of seven(7) youth, six(6) of them being young woman – and so we’re hopeful that our little contribution and gesture will make a difference in the society we live in. By offering this young women employment opportunity – we almost guaranteed that they will feed the entire family which gives households hope and has the potential to change the entire trajectory of their lives.
As another year ends, I would like to thank you immensely for entrusting (BICS) Bashumi Instruments & Control Services as your preferred partner and supplier of choice.
You will probably agree that BICS has grown substantially since we entered the market 14 years ago, and the growth we have seen is only attributable to all of you being confident and supportive of the service offering over the years.
Our year-end function held on the 24th November 2017 went ahead without any major challenges and we would like to thank all those who took time out of their busy schedules to spend time with us as we celebrated the year that has been, without you it wouldn’t have been possible. For those who got the invite late or did not get the invite at all, we sincerely apologise, however, we hope to see you all in 2018 as we celebrate our 15th year anniversary in style.
Once more, thanks for having made BICS your preferred partner and we are looking forward to continuing to work with you in 2018.
The SAB Accelerator incubation project has come to the point where we spread our wings and prosper after an intense building boot camp which cultivated each of us individually with insightful knowledge and skills development by identifying our gaps and providing us with tools to execute our goals with success. Accelerate, as its name implies has given us the opportunity to gain momentum to become better leaders in business. As brief as it might have seemed we have absorbed so much understanding as prospering entrepreneurs in our own individual capacities. SAB did not just equip us but is willing to see us through to the very end, even though the project has sadly come to an end.
The closing event was an exceptionally significant one thanks to SNG, SAB and the rest of the team. The highly motivational talks from the likes of Dean Davey got us thinking about the journey ahead. we will not part with your motivating words of wisdom and will keep them close to us to assist us in this journey called entrepreneurship.
To Sanjay Premraj and the SAB team, we would love to thank you for this effective opportunity to be a part of the accelerator project. it is so inspiring to know that it is not the end of the road but the start of a growing partnership, like you said we can reach out for guidance when we hit speed bumps and portholes, thanks.
Big thanks to our business coach Yugen Pillay from SNG. Working with Yugen has given me the strategy and formation to build a solid foundation. I have learned how to craft Marketing messages that speak directly to my potential clients. You did not just equip me with the knowledge but helped me harness my skills in business. I will make you proud coach thanks.
To all the other participants, all the best to your future endeavours and wishing you all the best of success in the beginning of your new journey and may it brings more than just financial gain but personal growth to cultivate new ideas and consistency to leave no stone unturned in building towards the future success of your legacy.
4th September 2017 BICS was invited to attend the SAB entrepreneurship Launch as we are one of the candidates participating in the ABInBev Incubation Program.
This campaign was beautifully coordinated and well executed by the SAB crew ensuring that they laid the groundwork to support entrepreneurs and work towards their target of creating 10 000 jobs in SA by 2021.
After listening to some of the key note speakers that have benefited and developed from the program we are ecstatic beyond words could comprehend to be part of this initiative. We are fully committed to ensuring that the campaign of creating job opportunities is continuously sustained and ensuring that South Africa’s unemployment crisis is challenged.
We look forward to the platform of programmes launched by SAB. The SAB accelerator, SAB thrive and SAB Foundation to mention a few, these programmes showcase the vast opportunities generated for women, youth, people living with disabilities and people living in rural areas and their paramount participation in the programmes to ensure economic participation, especially amongst the youth. We are committed to supporting the cause.
